Welcome to D & L Ranch, Thanks for stopping in!
We are a located in Northwestern Pennsylvania on a small 13ac farm. We have raised Goats
since 1988. We started with Dairy, Alpines then later Nubians, milked, did the "show thing", moved on to Boers, which I loved the ears (I'm the Nubian fan) but grew tired of trying to produce a product with little outlet to a Client that wanted to pay less than hamburger in the store for. The Girls and I worked too hard to give away that end product. The Breeders were sold, the Old Girls put out to pasture, the wethers went in the freezer and I went looking for a goat to raise that we enjoyed, did not have to milk and still would not have to worry about a meat market for them. I found them in my own back yard, in a doe I had bought as a gift for my husband. He had always wanted a Fainter and a birthday was the perfect time to forfill that wish.
Our older Does are Premium Registered with the IFGA and with Myotonic Goat Registry. We will register the kids with the MGR. I love the pedigree search on the MGR site. A very useful tool for all Breeders.
We breed for a small size fainter (think mini and pets) with heavy muscling (think Hulk without the green), that readily faints. Isn't that what all the fuss is about? We personally prefer short coats over long as this coat best shows off the goats muscling, but you will see some with a medium to longer length hair still in the herd. We have a variety of colors with my love being the Chocolate colored Fainters! Blue Eyes are a plus. We bred for conformation first, then colors, including eye color. Our goats are priced on Quality not color. My favorite saying is "Not every buck born is a Buck!" and we live by that, so we are always looking for good homes for wethers. They make wonderful economical pets and don't smell.
A little about Fainting Goats, they do not "faint" as we think of it, they have a heredity condition called Myatonia. When excited or started they will stiffen and possibly fall over, appearing to faint. They will remain stiff for 10 to 15 seconds. They are fully aware of their surroundings and are in no pain.
We treat our fainters with great respect of their "condition".
Fainters are friendly goats, we encourage this with disbudding of our horned goats, ever see a child safely hug a horned goat? Me neither. Fainters need just basic quality care and love from us.
